Grand Opening!

We are so excited to be announcing the opening of the brewery we’ve been working on for months on end. But we know this is just the beginning of a new adventure, actually owning and operating a brewery.

In the meantime, we thought we’d tell you a little story of our own, the story of Small Gods. As you may or may not have noticed by now, we are a literary-themed brewery in Canada’s bookstore capital, Sidney which has one of the highest bookstore to capita ratio. As south island residents, we’ve seen how much the area has grown in recent years and want to join this exciting community.

Back to our story. On top of Small Gods sounding like an awesome name, it's inspired by “In Search of Small Gods” by author, poet, and food writer Jim Harrison. He is timeless and adventurous, having published works well into his later years and lived around the world in unique places like Patagonia. His other works include Legends of the Fall and even has appeared in Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown but always managed to keep a low profile. For us, Harrison epitomizes everything we imagine for Small Gods, good food and drinks, art and literature, humanity and humility. As for Small Gods, the book, it's a collection of poems that explores our relationship to nature, death, and explores the unknown, what could be Small Gods.

We know we are writing our own stories by going on this adventure called owning and operating a brewery. We know we will meet our own Small Gods—people and things and circumstances that will greatly impact us. To everyone who has joined us on this journey so far whether by stopping by or lending words of wisdom, thank you. And to everyone else, we hope you’ll stop by for a beer or give us a shout-out on social media the next time you take one of our beers home.
