The Small Gods Storyteller Series is a monthly event featuring local and visiting writers.


On April 2nd at 6 pm, join us for vol. 2 of the Small Gods Storyteller Series! Enjoy an evening of literary readings, featuring our visiting author Alessandra Naccarato (poetry & essays coming all the way from Toronto!), as well as local island writers Sonnet L'Abbé (poetry) and Sophie Crocker (poetry & fiction).

Alessandra Naccarato is the author of Imminent Domains: Reckoning with the Anthropocene (Essays) and Re-Origin of Species (Poems). Re-Origin of Species was awarded the AICW Bressani Literary Prize for Poetry and named a Best Book of 2019 by CBC Books. Her work has appeared in The New Quarterly, Event, and elsewhere.

Sonnet L’Abbe is a poet, a literary editor, and a professor at Vancouver Island University cross-appointed to the Department of Creative Writing and Journalism and to the English Department. Their third poetry collection, Sonnet's Shakespeare, was a finalist for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize and the Raymond Souster Award.

Sophie Crocker is a writer and performer based on Songhees, Esquimalt, and WSÁNEĆ land. Her writing has appeared in the 2023 Best Canadian Poetry anthology, PRISM International, The Malahat Review, and elsewhere. Her debut poetry collection, brat, was released in fall 2022 from Gordon Hill Press.

Alessandra Naccarato is visiting all the way from Toronto as part of the book tour for her recently released essay collection Imminent Domains: Reckoning with the Anthropocene.

A limited number and selection of books by the authors may be for sale after the event. We recommend you bring cash if you intend to purchase books. Please feel free to bring any book you may own by any of the authors should you like to have your books signed after the readings!

Priority Reserved Seating is available for sale through the Small Gods EventBrite. These tickets will provide reserved seating in the closest proximity to the readers.

General Admission Tickets will be available at the door at 5:30 pm on the night of the event, but seating that is in proximity to the authors is not guaranteed.
